a couple minutes in the mind of an unemployed engineer...

SOMEBODY HIRE ME!!!  I have applied to about 10, 000 jobs it seems.  Everything from Engineering, Estimating, and CAD work to Administrative Assistants, Sales, JC Penny and Marketing!  I don't know where else to apply.  I'm either over-qualified (as in will leave that job as soon as something else comes along) or under-qualified.  I think I graduated at about the WORST time possible.  Luckily my husband has a good job, and I pray nothing ever happens to his company causing him to lose his job!

I've had few interviews, mostly at hourly type places, and one of the questions I get asked when they look at my resume is, "Sooo engineering?  So that means if I hire you and some engineering job comes along in either, say 2 weeks or 2 months, you're going to leave this place?"  Well duh, but I need a job NOW!!!  Engineering/construction isn't doing so well right now, as in not doing a lot of hiring right now!  Another problem with engineering jobs is that "senior level" engineers have been laid off as well.  So all these "entry level" jobs that me, and every other unemployed engineering graduate are applying for are also getting applied for by these senior level engineers.  Guess what that means!  Senior level work and experience for entry level pay.  Where does that leave me??????  JOBLESS!!  I think I'm losing it...these walls are closing in!  On the plus side...my house is spotless :)

Labor Day Weekend

I've never really done much for labor day weekend.  This year, which we're still in our first year of home ownership, we decided to have family over and do a little cookout.  I'm sure the beach would have been nice (sans hurricanes) but we're still on a budget due to the fact that I have yet to find a job :(

My parents came over, with their 2 dogs...yes we had 4 dogs running around all weekend!  Luckily we had a fence put up, a week ago today as a matter of fact!  The best chunk of money we've spent in a looong time!!  Saturday morning was spent with Adam and my dad drinking coffee on our rocking chair front porch with fall in the air (mom was still sleeping, resting from her 3:30am work mornings).  The weather was about as perfect as it gets; crisp and cool enough for a light jacket.  We decided to take advantage of the nice weather and open our windows to air the house out, and try to re-coop from the month of August power bill... We eventually made our way over to Coldstone for some AMAZING ice cream, and then to Sams to purchase some food and beer for our cookout.  We invited Adams parents over as well for kabobs and burgers.

Sunday was a nice, lazy Sunday.  After my parents left that evening, Adam and I decided we wanted to build a small fire in our backyard and roast some s'mores.  We live on a wooded lot so if your back was to the house, you could almost believe you were camping.  That night we decided to have a "slumber party" I guess you could say.  We have an unbelievably comfortable L-shaped sofa, left the windows open and froze our butts off. The house got down to the high 50s. I'd say the dogs enjoyed themselves, they usually sleep in a crate at night.  We watched Pandorum, which took me a while to realize the guy that starred in it was that kid from the 90's show Flash Forward...I loved that show when i was a kid!  Then we fell asleep to Forrest Gump.

We had a cookout for friends on Monday.  We grilled some spicey burgers and Adam made some of his AMAZING guacamole!
